Library Basics: Everything you need to get started with the Library: Home

You can see what you have borrowed, renew and request items through your Library account. 

• To access your account, go to the Library website, and click the "Log in to your account" button on the top right-hand side of the screen. For detailed instructions see our "Guide to Using your Library Account".
• To search for books in our catalogue go to the Library website and type title into the search box. For detailed instructions see our "Guide to Searching the Library Catalogue".

• Use one of our databases (eg. Pubmed, Cinahl) to search for the article. Click on pdf or publisher icon. If we subscribe to the journal full text should be available here. 
• You can check the individual journal. Type the journal name into the search box. Click on the full text links below the title. Follow year, volume and issue to find your citation.
• If neither of these work we can source it elsewhere. Simply fill in the article details on this form. 

• Click here to access our A-Z list of databases. Use the description to find the most relevant one for your topic. For detailed instructions (including using OpenAthens) see here.

• Click here to access our E-Journals. Type the journal name into the search box. Click on the full text links below the title. For detailed instructions (including using OpenAthens) see here.

• If you are outside the SVUH or SMH network you will need an OpenAthens account to access these resources. For detailed instructions see here.

Printing from the SVUH Library computers

• The printer is located at the back wall of the library across from the row of computers.
• You can print directly to the Library printer from any of the desktops in the library.
• When you click print on your document the "Library photocopier" is selected by default.
• Send to print and the document will automatically print.

Printing from the SMH Library computers:

• The printer is located to the left as you enter the library.
• You can print directly to the library printer from any of the Desktop PCs in the library with the default login.
• When you choose File/Print (or Combine the ‘Ctrl’ and ‘P’ keys), the drop-down printer option to select is MFD287_LIB on stmhvm07.
• Select ‘Print’ and the document will automatically print.

• SVUH library is located on the first floor of the ERC. You will need your swipe to access it. Staff hours are 9 am to 4.30pm Monday to  Friday. The study area with PCs is open 24/7.
• SMH library is located on the ground floor of the Annex Building in St. Michael’s Hospital. You will need your swipe for access. Staffed Monday to Thursday 8:30 - 5 (lunch 1 - 2), Friday 8:30 - 1:30. 24/7 access. Inform security between 7:30pm – 7:30am and at weekends.
